Just going to provide a quick recap of this event, as you probably know, it wasn’t very good as The Fight Predictor model went 0-4 and lost a total of 5 units on the event. Obviously, we were hoping for a record of at least 2-2 and since the model picked all underdogs, it would have made us a decent profit. In reality though, as many people have told us throughout the process, there is a lot of randomness in MMA so it is an extremely difficult sport to predict. Keep in mind The Fight Predictor was 18-4 over the last 3 events heading into this one. The picks at this event represent just 4 of our 21 in the month of April.
Pearson vs Couture
Couture looked good early on, spending much of the first round leaning on Pearson. He was able to perfectly execute his gameplan, unfortunately it was only 5 of 15 minutes in the fight. In the second round, Pearson seemed to find his range and began stalking the young Couture with both fighters on their feet. Pearson’s strength and power proved to be too much for the lanky Couture as he was able to get a stoppage late in the second round. We lost 1 unit on this fight.
De Fries vs Mitrione
Mitrione took care of business, knocking out De Fries in a blistering 19 seconds. There is not much to say about a fight that ends this quickly. We lost 1 unit on the fight.
Easton vs Pickett
In what turned out to be the closest to winning we came all night, Easton lost in a split decision to Pickett. (It was funny at one point when someone mentioned how far from the truth “One Punch’s” nick name is.) The score of 30-27 from two judges for Pickett seems sort of like a home continent advantage, but we’ll give the judges the benefit of the doubt as it’s a very fast paced sport. We lost 1.5 units on this fight.
Pearson defeats Couture. A loss of 1 unit
Mitrione defeats De Fries. A loss of 1 unit
Pickett defeats Easton. A loss of 1.5 units
Brandao defeats Garza. A loss of 1.5 units
Total loss of 5 units on the event. 0-4 in predictions and bets.
We will be back later this week for our picks for The Ultimate Fighter 17 finale. Speaking of which, how sick is Uriah Hall? Will be interesting to see how he matches up against the much stiffer competition in the UFC.
