In what turned out to be one of the few UFC cards that actually lives up to the hype, The Fight Predictor was able to turn in its best night of all time. Our total profit of the night was just over 13 units and our bets went 4-1 overall on the night. Without further adue, let’s get to the results.
In the main event, we had a 3 unit bet on Chris Weidman to once again defeat Anderson Silva at 2.2 to 1. The line actually climbed as the fight approached, reaching 2.75 to 1 minutes before the contest. The fight was incredibly similar to the first, with Weidman being on top for much of the first round, knocking Silva down with a vicious strike and getting on top and landing ground and pound for at least 3 minutes. At 1:16 of round 2, Silva threw a leg kick which was checked by Weidman. Unfortunately for Silva (and us as fight fans), his leg couldn’t hold up to the force of the kick being checked and it snapped on contact. The second round TKO victory for Weidman gives us a 3.6 unit profit.
In the co-main event, as expected, Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate fought a longer fight than their first match-up, but one that ultimately ended in the same result. Our 1.5 unit bet on the over 1.5 rounds ended up being good as although Tate was once again dominated, she was able to hold on until 58 seconds of round 3 before she was once again arm barred by Rousey. We earn a 2.78 unit profit.
In the middle of the main card, we had the heavyweight tilt between Josh Barnett and Travis Browne to last less than 7.5 minutes. While it looked pretty even early on, we saw shades of the Browne TKO of Gonzaga when Barnett went for a takedown against the fence and received several huge elbows behind his ear which rendered him unconscious. The difference in this one was you cannot question whether these elbows were legal. We profit 2.61 units.
In a pick which came directly from our mathematical model, we had Michael Johnson to defeat Gleison Tibau. The first round in the lightweight contest was very even, but we gave the edge to Johnson primarily because he was able to stagger Tibau at one point. In round 2, Johnson was able to take advantage of his slower opponent, getting the KO victory at 1:32 of round 2. We profit 3.99 units.
We had 2 parlay bets on the evening as well. Unfortunately, Bobby Voelker lost to William Macario which cost us 2 units in our Voelker/Miller parlay. Fortunately, we profited 2.12 units on the backs of Robbie Peralta and Dennis Siver who both made good on their favourite status.
