In the third event we had money on this weekend, we were up bright and early for the TUF China Finale live from Macau, China. It was another good night for The Fight Predictor as we went 3-1 on our bets for a profit of 2.93 units. This gave us a weekend total of 5-2 for +5.47 units! This increases our total return over the last 9 events to just shy of +40 units and an almost 100% return on our money. By the way, if you haven’t checked out Reed Kuhn’s Fightnomics it is a must read for any UFC fan, or anyone interested in betting on UFC fights.
Our last 2 bets of the card were both on the Shawn Jordan vs Matt Mitrione heavyweight tilt. Firstly, we had 3 units on Jordan to take the victory at 1.84 to 1. Secondly, we had 2 units on the fight to be under 1.5 rounds at 1.69 to 1. In a back and forth first round, Mitrione was able to take control at the end of the round, stunning Jordan and then capitalizing on his woozy opponent and landing punches in bunches. Mitrione did enough to TKO Jordan at the bell. We lose 3 units on our bet on Jordan and profit 1.38 units on the under.
Our second bet of the night was originally supposed to be a parlay between Hatsu Hioki and Zak Cummings. Unfortunately, Cummings came in 7 lbs overweight for his bout with Alberto Mina. Mina elected not to compete. Thus, our parlay becomes a straight bet on Hioki. 2 units at 1.25 to 1. Round 1 was all Hioki as he quickly took the back and continued to control Menjivar on the ground. The second round started pretty even, but Hioki got a takedown around the middle of the round. His aggression on the ground almost cost him as he gave up control in going for an arm bar, but he eventually got back into top position and held it for the last minute or so of the round. Round 3 saw Menjivar turn the tables, landing several devastating strikes, but unable to finish the deal. We had it 29-28 for Hioki. The judges got it right as all 3 scored it 29-28 for Hioki. We profit 0.50 units.
Our first bet of the night was Vaughn Lee to defeat Nam Phan. We bet 3 units at 2.35 to 1. Lee was the better striker throughout and the action was on the feet for the entirety of the 3 rounds. The judges made the easy decision to award the bout to Lee. We profit 4.05 units.
Under 1.5 Rounds – Mitrione/Jordan (+1.38 units)
Lee over Phan (+4.05 units)
Hioki over Menjivar (+0.50 units)
