UFC 181: Hendricks vs Lawler II Betting Recap

Last night UFC 181: Hendricks vs Lawler II went down from Las Vegas and man what a great card it was. There were some awesome finishes, but there was also no lack of controversy. For us, it wasn’t a good night as we went 1-1 on our paid picks for +0.50 units and 0-2 for -3.00 units on our free betting tips. Obviously, you can’t profit every night, but it would have been nice to get at least one of the main card bets right for a small profit. In total, it was a 1-3 night for a 2.50 unit loss. We’ll be back later in the week with at least one free betting tip for the two cards next weekend as well as some paid bets! If you’re interested, here’s the pdf containing our paid betting tips for UFC 181. As well, our paid tips for next weekend’s 2 events are now available for pre-order on our Sellfy page!

In the main event, we had the under 4.5 rounds in the rematch for the welterweight strap between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler. The bet was 2 units at 1.95 (-105) and the line seemed to stay pretty steady throughout the week leading up to the fight. Unexpectedly (at least to us) there seemed to be less close calls for finishes in this second match-up than there were in the first. The majority of the action was initiated by Lawler and Hendricks main game plan appeared to be stalling against the cage. Unfortunately, Hendricks especially appeared to be fighting a lot safer than in the previous fight. That’s really all there is to say about the under not hitting, but in terms of the decision itself, we had Hendricks taking the first 3 rounds and Lawler taking the last round so Hendricks would retain the title with a 48-47 decision. It wasn’t all that surprising that the judges scored it for Lawler making him the new UFC welterweight champ. We lost our 2 unit bet.

In the middle of the main card in a heavyweight bout, we had Brendan Schaub to defeat Travis Browne. Our bet was just 1 unit at 3.89 (+289) and this line was as high as 4.70 (+370) at some sports books by fight time. The bet actually looked great for the first half of the first round. Unfortunately, Browne turned things around by landing a devastating upper cut and eventually getting Schaub’s back where he reigned down strikes and forced the ref to stop the fight with 10 seconds remaining in the first round. We lost our 1 unit bet.

In our last bet of the main card, we had Anthony Hamilton to defeat Todd Duffee. It was a 2 unit bet at 3.80 (+280). This bet was more of a fade on Duffee who was coming back from Parsonage-Turner syndrome than a play on Hamilton. Duffee proved all doubters wrong as he looked to be 10x as fast as Hamilton eventually TKOing his foe in the first round. We lost our 2 unit bet.

Our second paid tip was on the opener of the card as we had 2 units on Clay Collard to defeat Alex White at 2.25 (+125). This fight was pretty back and forth, with Collard being more aggressive, but also more wild with his strikes while White kept it technical, but tended to sit back a lot. We felt it was 29-28 for Collard going to the judges, but we were still sweating the decision. The judges got it right giving us our only win of the night. We profit 2.50 units.

That was it for our UFC 181: Hendricks vs Lawler II betting tips. We’ve had much worse nights and after a solid month of November, we’ll call this paying the betting gods. Remember to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest!
