UFC Fight Night 74: Holloway vs Oliveira goes down a week this Sunday (August 23) from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Western Canada. The card is pretty respectable for a fight night card, but lacks the big names at the top that we’ve seen lately at fight nights. Nothing against Max Holloway or Charles Oliveira though as they are both likely a win or two away from a title shot. The thing is, neither of their names will resonate with the general public. Who cares though, right? We’re just here to try to make some money on a card that could see us place as many as 7 total bets including two four unit plays. It’s all line movement dependent obviously, but that’s what we’re looking at today. In terms of our recent results, we had our best month in history in June and followed it up with a decent profit in July. Unfortunately, August has not been as generous to us and a big loss at Fight Night 73 leaves us in the red. Fight Night 74 is the third of three events in August so it will be our last chance to get back in the green! In the “main event” of the prelims, long time veteran Sam Stout and Frankie Perez will do battle. Stout is now 31 years old and 20-11-1 overall. He made his UFC debut in 2006 and has accumulated 9 wins and 10 losses for the promotion. He seems to be on somewhat of a decline as of late going 2-3 over his last 5 fights including 2 straight TKO losses to Ross Pearson and KJ Noons. His opponent, Frankie Perez is 26 years old and 9-2 overall. He has only fought once in the UFC, losing via third round TKO to Johnny Case. In terms of the betting odds for this fight, Stout opened as the very slight favourite, but the line has since flipped and Stout is now the slight dog while Perez is a slight favourite. In our opinion this is a classic buy low, sell high scenario. The betting public is way down on Sam Stout, thinking he has nothing left after his two straight TKO losses. While it may be true that his chin isn’t nearly where it was 5 years ago, we don’t think a guy like Frankie Perez who only has 1 TKO win in his 11 career fights is going to be able to exploit it. Sure, Stout’s skills may have declined, but he should still be able to handle Perez. It’s worth noting that our model sees Stout as the much more likely winner in this fight as well. We placed a 4 unit bet on Sam Stout to defeat Frankie Perez at 2.00 (+100) at Pinnacle.
