In a middleweight fight that will be the second fight of the main card, Uriah Hall and Robert Whittaker will do battle. Whittaker was originally scheduled to face Michael Bisping, but Bisping got hurt at the end of September and Uriah Hall stepped up to take his place. While it’s slighty short notice, Hall had just defeated Gegard Mousasi so he was likely still in great shape and the 6 or so weeks he has to prepare should be enough that the late notice won’t really have an impact. The opening odds had Hall as a 1.54 (-185) favourite, but the money seems to have come in on Whittaker dramatically as Hall is now just a 1.83 (-120) favourite. Hall is 31 years old and 12-5 overall. He has a UFC record of 5-3, but all 3 losses were split decisions while 4 of 5 wins were by TKO or KO. He also went 4-0 on the Ultimate Fighter, winning 3 of 4 fights by TKO including a flashy spinning kick KO of Adam Cella. Robert Whittaker is also a TUF alum, winning TUF: The Smashes over Brad Scott in 2012. He is 24 years old and 14-4 overall. He is 5-2 in the Octagon with 3 of his 5 wins by TKO/KO. In this match-up, our model favours Uriah Hall and while the opening line was probably pretty close to fair, the current line seems off. Our opinion is that the betting public thinks Whittaker is better than he is becuase of his flashy TKO win over Brad Tavares. Besides that win, he has yet to beat any notable opponents and Uriah Hall will be a big step up for him. He has mostly preffered to strike in his UFC career so far and we don’t expect he’ll be able to match the speed of Hall on the feet. The other potential factor is a bad decision in favour of Whittaker since the fight is in his native Australia, but we don’t really expect this to go to decision and if it does, we expect it will be clear enough that Hall did enough to win that we won’t see a bad decision. We placed a 3 unit bet on Uriah Hall at 1.83 (-120) at Bookmaker.
