UFC Fight Night 79: Henderson vs Masvidal will be live from Seoul, South Korea early Saturday morning. We’ll have all your betting covered, starting with our free bet in this post. Later on in the week, we hope to add 5 or 6 bets that will be exclusively available for our CapperTek followers. In terms of our recent results, UFC Fight Night 78: Gastelum vs Magny went about as poorly as an event can go. We went 1-7 for a total loss of 13.90 units. To give you an idea of how bad this event was for us, it was our worst loss of the year and there have only been 2 events this year where we lost more than 7.50 units. We have had 5 events where we’ve made more than 7.50 units in profit though. Obviously, betting on MMA is incredibly volatile, but we’ll stick to our guns and continue to bring you long run profits by betting with our mathematical model.
In the main event, Benson Henderson and Jorge Masvidal will do battle. Originally, Henderson was supposed to fight Thiago Alves in the main event, but Alves withdrew on November 14 and was replaced by Masvidal who was previously scheduled to fight Dong Hyun Kim at the event. This gives the two men 2 weeks to adjust for the change in match-up. This will be Henderson’s second fight in the welterweight division. He debuted against Brandon Thatch at UFC Fight Night 60 back in February and was successful with a fourth round rear naked choke. Henderson was incredibly successful in the lightweight division, winning the lightweight title in 2012 and successfully defending it 3 times. Masvidal will also be fighting for the second time in the welterweight division after returning to it with a KO win over Cezar Ferreira in July. In this match-up, we expect Henderson will have the speed advantage in the striking. He should use his high fight IQ to avoid the majority of Masvidal’s standing attacks and he should be able to dart in with counters of his own. We are also not worried about Henderson being outwrestled as the former NAIA All-American has shown a lot of skill in the wrestling department throughout his career. Our model favours Henderson very strongly which is why we made him the first leg of our 2 team free bet parlay. The current odds on Henderson are 1.42 (-240).
The second leg of our two team parlay will be Dong Hyun Kim. Hyun Kim will be fighting in the co-main event against Dominic Waters who is a late replacement for Jorge Masvidal. Hyun Kim has fought against many of the top welterweights in the UFC including Josh Burkman, Tyron Woodley, Demian Maia and Carlos Condit. His opponent Dominic Waters will be fighting in the Octagon for the second time on short notice in foreign territory. He wasn’t even able to defeat George Sullivan in his UFC debut so he should pose little threat to Hyun Kim. Needless to say, Hyun Kim is hugely favoured by our model which is why we made him the second leg of our two team parlay. The result is a 2 unit bet on Benson Henderson and Dong Hyun Kim (over Dominic Waters) at 1.65 (-154) at Bookmaker.
