UFC on FOX 20: Holm vs Shevchenko went down last night and it was an excellent night of betting for us! From a fan perspective, the relatively weak Fox card didn’t deliver with its prelim fights where 5 of 7 went to decision, but the main card was fairly good with 2 finishes and a couple exciting decisions to finish the night. We went undefeated on our bets going 3-0 for a profit of 6.22 units. This is our third straight profit and over the last 3 events we’re up around 16 units! Our first bet of the night was on the second fight of the night as we had 2 units on Jason Knight to defeat Jim Alers. We got odds of 2.60 (+160), but by fight time the odds had come down to pretty much even on Knight. Round 1 was back and forth, but Knight completely pressed the action. He had a cut on his face which might have looked bad to the judges, but we felt his volume plus a late takedown were enough to edge out the round. Round 2 was more clearly Knight’s. His leg kicks from earlier in the fight started to add up and effect Alers’ movement. He also landed a lot more strikes and in Alers lone takedown, Knight was very active off his back. Round 3 was awesome! Alers rocked Knight early and got a takedown. He couldn’t do anything on the ground as Knight did great work off his back. The rest of the round was mostly Knight pushing forward landing strikes save for a late takedown by Alers which he didn’t do anything with. We had it 30-27 Knight, but rounds 1 and 3 weren’t certain. 2 of 3 judges scored it for Knight and we profit 3.20 units on our 2 unit bet.
Our second bet of the night was a 2 unit play on Alex Oliveira to defeat James Moontasri. The odds on this one were 1.51 (-197) which was pretty much where it closed. Round 1 was almost entirely fought in the clinch. The most significant strike was an illegal low blow by Oliveira. Outside of that, Oliveira had more control against the cage and landed better strikes. We had it 10-9 Oliveira after 1. Round 2 started similar to the first with Oliveira landing strikes in the clinch. Eventually he got Moontasri down and punished him with ground and pound. Round 3 was basically a carbon copy of round 2 with some clinch before Oliveira got a takedown and the rest of the round spent with Oliveira on top. We had it 30-27 Oliveira going to the judges and this one wasn’t really in doubt. All 3 judges scored it in favour of Oliveira (30-26×2, 30-25) and we profit 1.02 units on our 2 unit bet.
Our final bet of the night was a 2 unit play on Felice Herrig to defeat Kailin Curran. We got odds of 2.00 (+100), but by fight time the line had climbed to 2.30 (+130) at some books. It didn’t take long for this one to go to the ground. Herrig got an early takedown and was able to capitalize on a mistake by Curran to take her back. From there she made no mistake, locking up a rear naked choke. We profit 2 units on our bet!
