In an important lightweight main event of the prelims, Eddie Alvarez returns from losing his lightweight title to Conor McGregor to face rising star Dustin Poirier. Alvarez is currently the underdog at 2.11 (+111) while Poirier is the favourite at 1.91 (-110). Alvarez is 28-5 overall. He signed with the UFC as Bellator’s lightweight champion going 10-1 in the Bellator cage. Since signing with the UFC he is 3-2, but his only losses have come to the lightweight champ, Conor McGregor and now highly ranked welterweight Donald Cerrone. Dustin Poirier is 21-5 overall. He has been fighting in the UFC for over 6 years and has compiled a record in the Octagon of 13-4. He has also really only lost to top guys, suffering TKOs against Conor McGregor and Michael Johnson, a submission against Chan Sung Jung and a decision loss to Cub Swanson. We like Alvarez to bounce back from his KO loss to Conor McGregor in this fight. He has had 6 months off to recoup from that fight and we expect he will come back hungrier than before to once again reach the pinnacle. We see Poirier as the type of guy to lose to a top fighter like Alvarez, but to continue to beat much of the lower level competition. We placed a 4 unit bet on Eddie Alvarez at 2.10 (+110).
